Description

CHAPAEV SQUARE

At the end of the 19th century the head of Samara Peter Alabin decided to broaden the city and he ordered to construct a new brick drama theatre almost in the country, almost in the wood. In two decades the new magnificent theatre acquired the most beautiful and luxurious houses of Samara in modernist style. The small area near the theater was called Teatralnaya (which means Theatrical), and this place became the third – after the Hlebnaya and Alekseevskaya Squares – city center. The Samara Academic Drama Theatre named after Maxim Gorky and the monument to Vasily Chapayev are located here. From here one can admire the panoramic view of the Volga river, the Strukovsky park, the Zhiguly brewery and the Iversky Monastery.
