"Introduction From Il Gesù to the Pantheon, the area of Campus Martius"
Our visit starts on the Piazza del Gesù, with the broad and sober facade of Il Gesù, a church once home to the powerful Jesuit order. The Via del Plebiscito is a short street that begins at Venice Square and runs alongside the Piazza del Gesu. Our visit will cover a large part of the Campus Martius area. Along the way, we will see a wide variety of monuments and sights, among the most characteristic and famous of the Ro-man skyline. Magnificent, baroque churches like that of Il Gesù or St Ignatius and important monuments from ancient Rome, like the well-known Pantheon, an ancient temple that later became a church. We will also see spectacular squares like the beautiful Piazza Sant’ Ignazio - St Ignatius square - a true masterpiece of rococo art. These places will conjure up memories of famous artists such as Raphael or Fra Angelico. But for now, let us begin our visit with the Piazza del Gesù, in front of the church of the same name.
