Description

Dockside Trail

If you walk along the edge of the canal basin, you can see a number of engraved tiles set on the ground. They include facts about the dock, and a number of associated words and phrases. Look for the word ‘Tom Pudding’, which was a name given to coal-transporting tub boats on the Aire and Calder Navigation. Some argue that the name derives from their resemblance to black puddings, or perhaps Yorkshire puddings. These tiles were created by Lesley Fallais, who also produced the art work in Armouries Square.
