Now walk past the pub. Take Bank End Street on your right without passing under the railway bridge and continue for about 30 meters. We’ll go up to Number 1 Bank End to London’s wine museum, Vinopolis. Its sign can be seen clearly from the end of the street. This is, in fact, more than a museum because you can also taste and buy some very fine wines. This museum is here to remind us that the quays we’re strolling on today were once used to unload wine that arrived from France by boat.Barrels of wine, especially casks of Bordeaux, were loaded onto ships leaving the port of Bordeaux. It is believed that the boat’s movements, combined with the almost constant temperature of the holds, completed the aging process and improved the wine during the voyage to England.
